TraXtion is a fast-growing SaaS provider in the automotive industry, delivering innovative cloud-based solutions that empower our clients to streamline tire service opportunities and related operations and enhance customer experiences. We’re a nimble yet ambitious organization leveraging Microsoft technologies (.NET Core, SQL Server) and Angular to build scalable, high-performance cloud-based applications. We’re seeking a visionary Director of Cloud Software Engineering to lead our globally dispersed engineering team and drive technical excellence.

Position Overview:

The Director of Cloud Software Engineering will lead a globally distributed team of software engineers and QA staff in designing, developing, and maintaining cloud-based applications that power our automotive SaaS platform. This role is pivotal in fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement while ensuring adherence to Agile best practices and robust change control processes. Reporting to the CTO, the Director will oversee end-to-end software development, optimize team performance, and align engineering efforts with the company’s strategic goals.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a globally dispersed team of 10-15 software engineers, fostering a collaborative culture across time zones.
  • Recruit, onboard, and develop top engineering talent, ensuring skill alignment with the Microsoft (.NET Core, SQL Server) and Angular tech stack using microservices, containerization, and serverless technologies.
  • Set clear performance expectations, conduct regular performance reviews, and implement professional development plans to enhance team capabilities.

Software Development Oversight

  • Oversee the design, development, and deployment of scalable, secure, and high-performance cloud applications hosted on Azure and AWS.
  • Ensure the team delivers high-quality code by promoting best practices in software engineering, including code reviews, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Collaborate with the CTO and product management to define technical roadmaps, prioritize features, and balance innovation with technical debt reduction.
  • Lead QA staff in managing QA test development and automation efforts

Agile Process Champion

  • Drive the continued adoption and improvement of Agile methodologies (Scrum) to enhance team productivity and delivery predictability.
  • Facilitate sprint planning, daily stand-ups, retrospectives, and other Agile ceremonies, ensuring effective communication across distributed teams.
  • Monitor and report on key performance metrics (e.g., velocity, predictability, scope management) to identify opportunities for process optimization.

Change Control & Governance

  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust change control processes to ensure stability and traceability in production environments.
  • Enforce adherence to change management policies, including documentation, risk assessments, and approval workflows for code deployments.
  • Mitigate risks associated with software changes by promoting practices like feature toggles, rollback strategies, and post-deployment validation.

Cloud Infrastructure & Security

  • Partner with DevOps and IT teams to optimize cloud architecture, ensuring scalability, cost-efficiency, and resilience.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC 2, GDPR) and automotive-specific regulations by embedding security best practices (e.g., secure coding, encryption) into the development lifecycle.
  • Oversee disaster recovery and high-availability strategies to maintain service uptime for customers.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Act as a bridge between engineering, QA, product management, and customer success teams to align technical solutions with business and customer needs.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, providing transparency on project status, risks, and trade-offs.
  • Represent engineering in executive discussions, contributing to strategic planning and technology investment decisions.

Continuous Improvement & Innovation

  • Foster a culture of experimentation and innovation, encouraging the team to explore new tools, frameworks, or architectures that enhance product value.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to reduce delivery times, improve code quality, and enhance team morale.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends in cloud computing, SaaS, and automotive technology to keep the company competitive.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 10+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing distributed teams.
  • Deep expertise in Microsoft technologies (.NET Core, SQL Server). microservices, serverless, containerization, and front-end frameworks (Angular preferred).
  • Proven experience building and scaling cloud-based applications.
  • In-depth knowledge of QA processes both manual and automated (Cypress knowledge is a plus)
  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and a track record of driving Agile transformations.
  • Hands-on experience establishing change control processes and ensuring compliance in production environments.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and align global teams.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud security best practices.
  • Knowledge of the automotive industry or SaaS business models is a plus.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, resource-constrained environment.
