General Purpose The Pharmacist will accurately prepare and dispense medications, provide pharmaceutical care to patients, and ensure the safe and effective use of medication. A strong understanding of pharmacology and regulatory standards is essential to ensure the pharmacy runs smoothly and patients receive the highest level of care. List Essential Duties/Functions • Medication Dispensing: Accurately prepare and dispense medications, ensuring correct dosage and labeling. • Patient Consultation: Provide comprehensive counseling to patients on medication use, potential side effects, and interactions. • Compounding: Prepare compounded medications as per physician prescriptions, adhering to safety and quality standards. • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all state and federal pharmacy laws and regulations. • Inventory Management: Manage inventory levels, place orders for pharmaceutical supplies, and verify receipt of shipments. • Collaboration: Work closely with healthcare providers to ensure optimal patient care and address any medication-related issues. • Patient Records: Maintain accurate patient records, including medication histories and insurance information. • Quality Assurance: Conduct quality assurance checks to ensure the accuracy and safety of dispensed medications. • Education and Training: Stay current with new developments in pharmacology and healthcare and provide training to pharmacy staff as needed. • Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer service by addressing patient needs, resolving issues, and ensuring patient satisfaction. Additional Duties and Responsibilities • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position. Supervisory Requirements May supervise pharmacy technicians and other support staff. Education and/or Experience • Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited pharmacy school. • Licensed as a Pharmacist in the state of Louisiana. • Previous experience in a retail or compounding pharmacy setting preferred. Language Skills • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. • Ability to speak effectively with customers, healthcare providers, and employees. Mathematical Skills • Ability to perform basic mathematical operations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. • Ability to calculate dosages, percentages, and concentrations accurately. Reasoning Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations • Licensed as a Pharmacist in the state of Louisiana. Certification in CPR and immunization training preferred.
