Senior Spacecraft Systems Engineer

Location: California

Salary $140,000-$180,000

We are looking for a Senior Spacecraft Systems Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of advanced satellite systems and subsystems. This role covers the entire satellite lifecycle, from initial concept and design through testing and deployment, ensuring all systems meet mission, performance, and reliability requirements.

On-Site Role: This position requires full-time, on-site work. Remote or hybrid arrangements are not available.

Key Responsibilities

  • System Design: Develop and refine satellite systems, including payloads, bus components, and ground infrastructure, ensuring compliance with mission objectives.
  • Integration & Testing: Oversee system integration across hardware and software components. Lead validation and testing efforts to ensure operational functionality and reliability.
  • Requirements Development: Define, analyze, and refine system requirements, from high-level mission goals to subsystem specifications.
  • Technical Support: Provide expertise to engineering teams, troubleshooting and resolving complex system challenges.
  • System Budgets: Create and manage key system-level budgets, including mass, power, delta-V, pointing accuracy, and link budgets, throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Documentation: Maintain thorough records of system designs, test procedures, and performance assessments, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, hardware developers, and manufacturing teams, to drive successful system integration and deployment.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 6+ years in spacecraft systems engineering, with hands-on experience in satellite design and integration.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in satellite design software (e.g., MATLAB, STK) and in-depth knowledge of spacecraft subsystems, including communications, propulsion, and power systems.
  • Systems Engineering Mindset: Strong analytical skills with a system-wide perspective, capable of troubleshooting complex architectures.
  • Requirements Management: Experience developing technical requirements from minimal input and refining high-level mission goals into subsystem specifications.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across disciplines and present technical information clearly.
  • Security Clearance: Must be eligible to obtain a Secret and/or TS/SCI clearance .

Preferred:

  • Education: Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: 10+ years in satellite systems engineering, with a focus on high-precision or mission-critical spacecraft.
  • Advanced Expertise: Experience in advanced spacecraft system design, including payload development and satellite ground systems.
  • Certifications: Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CSEP, SEP).
  • Industry Background: Aerospace or space technology experience, particularly in complex satellite missions.
  • Innovation: Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and solve complex engineering challenges.
  • Startup Experience: Previous experience working in a fast-paced startup environment.

ITAR Requirements:

This position may involve access to technology and/or software subject to U.S. export control laws. Candidates must be one of the following:

(i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) lawful permanent resident (green card holder), (iii) refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or otherwise eligible to obtain necessary export authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
